Leonardo’s C-27J multi-mission tactical transport aircraft, which has amassed over 270,000 flight hours worldwide, continues to grow its operator base with a new order from Aramco. The company will receive two C-27J aircraft configured for cargo transport, firefighting, oil spill response, and medical evacuation within Saudi Arabia. The aircraft will be operated and maintained by Mukamalah Aviation Company, Aramco’s aviation subsidiary operating under the “Aloula Aviation” brand. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2027.
This marks Aloula Aviation as the 20th operator of the C-27J globally, with 95 total aircraft ordered. It is also the first civil customer to procure the C-27J in a multi-mission firefighting setup, reinforcing the platform’s growing appeal and versatility. Leonardo’s ongoing investments in advanced avionics, enhanced mission systems, and tailored solutions have made the C-27J adaptable to evolving mission profiles and stringent user requirements.
The partnership between Leonardo and Aramco, previously focused on helicopter support for Saudi Arabia’s energy and emergency sectors, now expands to fixed-wing platforms, further cementing the C-27J’s presence in the Middle East and Africa.
Leonardo’s C-27J Next Generation Fire Fighter is designed as a flexible, high-performance firefighting and disaster response aircraft. It incorporates the MAFFS II system—a roll-on/roll-off firefighting module that can be installed in under 90 minutes and refilled on the ground in less than 10 minutes. With its 7,500-liter capacity and precise spray deployment, the system enhances the C-27J’s rapid response capability.
The aircraft’s agility, STOL capabilities, and ability to perform in harsh weather and remote locations make it ideal for firefighting where other aerial assets may be ineffective. The C-27J’s versatility also supports disaster relief and fire prevention, providing an efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable emergency response solution.
