Finnish defense companies Sisu Auto and Valmet Automotive have entered into a teaming agreement to use Valmet’s Uusikaupunki facility as part of Finland’s push to scale up military vehicle production.
Located in southwest Finland, the Uusikaupunki plant is best known for producing luxury and sports cars, along with specialized roof and kinematic components. Over the years, the facility has manufactured vehicles for major automotive brands including Fisker, Mercedes-Benz, Opel, Porsche, and Saab.
Under the partnership, the facility will focus on assembling Sisu’s GT family of defense vehicles, comprising the GTP 4×4 tactical vehicle and the GTT all-terrain platform. The GTP is a mine-resistant, ambush-protected armored personnel carrier designed for operations in demanding environments, while the GTT serves as a versatile multi-role vehicle with configurations for transport, command and control, artillery support, and medical evacuation.
The production ramp-up at Uusikaupunki is expected to significantly boost local employment. With capacity projected at up to 300 vehicles, the expansion could generate more than 300 jobs annually.
The start of Sisu GT vehicle production follows a similar agreement signed earlier this month between Valmet and Finnish defense firm Patria, which plans to manufacture its Protected Mobility vehicle family at the same site, with development scheduled to begin in 2026.
