Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) has signed new agreements with Indian defense firms to co-develop and manufacture naval weapons and anti-submarine warfare systems. The collaborations strengthen TKMS’s role in supporting India’s naval modernization goals while aligning with New Delhi’s “Make in India” initiative, aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing and reducing reliance on imports.

One agreement, signed with Hyderabad-based VEM Technologies, focuses on developing and upgrading heavyweight torpedoes in India, with TKMS subsidiary Atlas Elektronik providing technical support from Germany and VEM overseeing local integration and testing.

The partnerships also cover broader opportunities, including potential participation in the P75(I) submarine program, cooperation with the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), and setting up new production facilities to cater to both Indian and global defense markets.
