Hanwha Ocean has entered into a teaming agreement with Babcock Canada for the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP), designating the company as the exclusive in-service support provider for the program.

This latest step builds on prior agreements between the firms, including a 2021 MoU and a 2022 technical cooperation pact. It also comes after Canada’s August announcement naming Hanwha Ocean and Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems of Germany as the two finalists for the high-profile competition.

Babcock Canada said that engaging a Canadian firm for through-life support will bolster fleet availability and sustainment. The company is part of the UK’s Babcock International Group, which delivers support services across the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet.

The CPSP, valued at C$60 billion ($43 billion), aims to field its first submarine no later than 2035, with the entire fleet operational by 2043. Hanwha Ocean claims it could produce the first submarine within six years of contract award and continue at a rate of one per year. A 2026 contract would allow delivery of four boats by 2035, beginning in 2032.
