South Korea’s Hanwha Aerospace has expanded its presence in Europe by signing two agreements in Poland to advance ammunition testing and missile production.

The move supports Poland’s push to strengthen its domestic defense manufacturing capacity and reduce reliance on imports, building on existing cooperation with Hanwha for artillery and rocket systems acquired during the country’s military expansion after Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

Under the new arrangement, Hanwha signed a memorandum of understanding with the state-run Military Institute of Armament Technology (WITU) to conduct joint testing of 155mm ammunition, facilitate knowledge exchange, and pursue research and development initiatives.

According to Hanwha, the initiative will accelerate ammunition certification for Polish artillery systems and bolster efforts to create a regional production hub in Europe.
