U.S.-based MARTAC has entered into a three-way agreement with Confucian of Taiwan and the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST) to pursue cooperation in unmanned surface vessel programs.
The memorandum of understanding outlines plans for co-development and co-production of MARTAC’s USVs in Taiwan, alongside initiatives in technology transfer, supply chain collaboration, workforce development, and knowledge sharing. These measures are intended to expand Taiwan’s indigenous defense and industrial capabilities.
The deal reflects Taiwan’s broader efforts to reinforce its autonomous defense systems. This month, NCSIST announced a long-term partnership with AV on unmanned and precision strike technologies, teamed with Kratos to field the Mighty Hornet IV attack drone, and worked with Shield AI and the Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation to advance aerospace defense innovation and strengthen the local industrial base.
