In a move to counter rising Russian drone activity, Poland will conduct joint counter-drone training with Ukrainian forces as part of closer defense cooperation between the two countries.
The Polish Defense Ministry confirmed ongoing discussions with Ukraine on advanced drone and counter-drone collaboration, noting that all training will occur within Poland’s borders. The clarification came after President Volodymyr Zelensky suggested Polish troops could enter Ukraine if authorized by Warsaw’s leadership.
The decision comes amid mounting pressure on Poland to strengthen its air defenses after several Russian drones violated its airspace, prompting the downing of three hostile objects on September 10. Officials have cautioned that continued Russian aggression could bring Europe to the brink of direct conflict.
The UN Security Council has already convened over the matter, emphasizing international concern that Russian drone strikes risk pulling NATO members into direct clashes.
Aligned with these efforts, Poland is investing 200 million zlotys ($55 million) in upgrading its drone capabilities, including creating a new Drone Center at the Air Force Institute of Technology to spearhead unmanned system development and deployment.
