UK-based Babcock International and Turkey’s Aselsan have agreed to jointly explore solutions to support the Royal Air Force’s future electronic warfare training requirements.
The cooperation centers on a potential Surface Electronic Warfare Threat training system under the RAF’s Next Generation Operational Training programme. The initiative is designed to modernize aircrew training for contested airspace by exposing personnel to advanced air defence threats without relying exclusively on live-flying exercises.
The effort reflects the UK’s broader push to adapt training methodologies as potential adversaries deploy increasingly sophisticated air defence and electronic warfare capabilities.
As part of the study, the two companies will examine whether a jointly developed system could simulate modern Integrated Air Defence Systems, including radar and surface-to-air missile threats. Such a capability would allow pilots and mission crews to train against realistic, scalable, and reconfigurable electronic warfare scenarios.
Babcock will contribute its experience in delivering military training and operational support to UK forces, while Aselsan will provide its expertise in electronic warfare technologies. No details on timelines, funding, or system configuration have been disclosed, and any future solution would be subject to UK Ministry of Defence requirements and approvals.
