Saab has signed a memorandum of understanding with Hanwha Aerospace to evaluate the integration of the Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB) into the Chunmoo multiple rocket launcher system.
The collaboration aims to enhance Chunmoo’s firepower by combining the precision and maneuverability of a glide bomb with the saturation and range of rocket artillery. Originally developed for South Korea, Chunmoo is now fielded by Poland, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
The system, mounted on an 8×8 Hanwha truck, features two modular pods. Each pod can carry 20 unguided 130mm rockets (36 km range), six 227mm unguided or 239mm guided rockets (up to 80 km range), or one 290mm tactical ballistic missile (290 km range).
The GLSDB, created by pairing the GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb with an M26 rocket motor, provides precision strike capability at ranges up to 150 kilometers (93 miles), greatly expanding the Chunmoo’s operational flexibility.
