Thales and BAE Systems have expanded their long-standing partnership to advance submarine sonar technology for the UK.
The new agreement builds on more than two decades of collaboration, focusing on faster delivery and deployment of enhanced sonar solutions for the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet. Thales, already a supplier of sonar for the Type 23 and Type 26 anti-submarine frigates, continues to broaden its role in UK defense innovation.

Recent initiatives highlight this strategy:

Thales and Autonomous Devices recently began co-developing EW-UAS1, a drone-based electronic warfare solution combining advanced payloads with a maneuverable, long-endurance UAV.

In May, Thales UK teamed with L3Harris to create an integrated short-range air defense C2 system.

In March, the Royal Navy received the first of four autonomous minehunting vessels from Thales, a 12-meter USV featuring AI-driven target recognition and dual remote/autonomous operating modes.
