Thales and Navantia have partnered to modernize the Royal Thai Navy’s fleet, marking their first joint effort in Thailand.
Under the agreement, Thales will deliver three identification friend-or-foe (IFF) systems as part of upgrades to two Pattani-class offshore patrol vessels and the refurbishment of the HTMS Chang landing platform dock, which Navantia will oversee.
The systems include the TSA3520 interrogator for medium- and long-range identification and the TSC4000 transponder, commonly used on ships, aircraft, and UAVs. These components will be integrated with the vessels’ existing radars and combat management systems to enhance threat recognition and situational awareness.
This cooperation expands on previous engagements with both companies. Thales already provides radars, sonars, mine-hunting tools, and fire control and command systems to the Thai Navy. Earlier this month, it secured a contract to supply an integrated platform management system for the carrier HTMS Chakri Naruebet, centralizing control of propulsion, electrical systems, auxiliary machinery, and damage control on the nearly 30-year-old ship.
Navantia, meanwhile, announced in April that it would support upgrades to the HTMS Chang, delivering new combat management, surveillance, and fire control systems alongside other essential technologies.
