The United States has approved a potential $620 million Foreign Military Sale to Bulgaria for a Naval Strike Missile Coastal Defense System and associated equipment.
Spanning up to five years, the package includes tactical Naval Strike Missiles and three Link-16 Multifunctional Information Distribution System – Joint Tactical Radio Systems to enable real-time communication on the battlefield.
The proposed deal also covers mobile fire control centers and missile launcher vehicles, both fitted with integrated communications. Additional equipment includes GPS units, operator training consoles, and systems for missile loading and transport.
The sale also provides for integration services and technical support from both the US government and the primary contractor, Norway-based Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace.
To support the implementation, three to five US government and contractor personnel will be temporarily stationed in Bulgaria.
According to US officials, the sale aligns with American foreign policy goals by boosting Bulgaria’s defense as a vital NATO ally, while also enhancing the country’s deterrence and interoperability with NATO and US forces.
