The US Army has increased its contract with Barrett Firearms by $14.2 million for additional MK22 barrel kits, pushing the program’s total value to more than $64 million. The MK22 — also called the Barrett Multi-Role Adaptive Design rifle — is the service’s newest precision sniper system and features a modular architecture that lets operators change calibers quickly by swapping barrels and bolts. That flexibility reduces the need for multiple dedicated rifles, enabling units to tailor the weapon to mission profile and engagement range.

This contract modification targets 7.62mm and .338-caliber barrel kits, allowing Barrett to deliver extra conversion kits so units can reconfigure MK22s as operational needs dictate. The $14.2 million increment was awarded through the Army Contracting Command in New Jersey; work and funding will be managed on a per-order basis. Deliveries are scheduled to continue through March 2026.

Barrett first secured the MK22 award in 2021 as part of the Army’s effort to replace legacy sniper systems such as the M2010 and M107 and to modernize small arms for long-range precision engagements. Headquartered in Tennessee, Barrett is widely known for its .50-caliber M82 rifle and was recently selected — alongside MARS Inc. — to produce a next-generation precision grenade launcher for the Army
