Following a series of evaluations, the US Army has cleared the XM204 terrain-shaping munition for fielding in Europe.

The system, tested at Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona, is an anti-vehicle weapon with standoff and top-attack functions. Production has already begun at a facility in Oklahoma.

According to Project Manager Close Contact Systems, the XM204 proved effective, reliable, and safe, reflecting successful development by the Army and Textron Systems.

Built for speed and adaptability, it can be deployed within minutes, moved as needed, and used individually or with complementary munitions.

The launcher automatically dispenses multiple submunitions, each fitted with sensors to track enemy vehicles and engage them with explosively formed penetrators.

The XM204 can also be safely recovered if not activated, enhancing battlefield control. The system integrates tamper-proof elements, safety indicators, and timed self-destruction for added security.
