UAE-based EDGE Group and Spain’s Indra Group have announced plans to establish a joint defense manufacturing company in Spain, focused on loitering munitions and smart weapons. The initiative aims to enhance Europe’s sovereign defense capabilities while addressing rising demand for advanced weaponry across the continent.

The new entity will combine EDGE’s expertise in high-tech defense systems with Indra’s well-established industrial infrastructure. Located in León, the facility will manufacture loitering munitions, with Indra contributing €15–20 million ($17.4–23 million) to expand production capacity.

This modular production hub comes at a time when European nations are prioritizing local supply chains for critical defense technologies to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers. EDGE has been expanding globally, with recent investments including a majority stake in Estonia’s Milrem Robotics and a 50 percent share in Brazil’s SIATT, both strengthening its footprint in robotics and smart weapons manufacturing.

In addition, EDGE has expanded its European presence with the acquisition of Swiss drone manufacturer ANAVIA, establishing a headquarters and prototyping center in Bilten, supporting collaborative R&D, technology transfer, and localized production.
