Saab has received a 1 billion Swedish krona ($104 million) contract from Sweden’s defence procurement agency for the serial production of a new missile launcher for the Gripen fighter jet fleet. Designed for use with both the Gripen C/D and Gripen E models, the launcher will enhance the aircraft’s missile interface and overall mission efficiency. The system provides a faster and more reliable link between the jet and its air-to-air weapons, improving combat performance and response times. The contract follows an earlier phase of design and testing, confirming the launcher’s readiness for production. Saab stated that the program forms part of Sweden’s continuous effort to upgrade its air defense infrastructure. The country has been modernizing its Gripen fleet and integrating new systems such as the RBS 70 NG short-range and RBS 98 medium-range air-defense platforms. These initiatives collectively improve the Swedish Armed Forces’ readiness against aerial threats. The new launcher contributes to Gripen’s ongoing evolution as a versatile and networked multirole aircraft capable of operating in complex air defense environments. Saab added that the project supports domestic industrial development and ensures continued technological advancement within Sweden’s aerospace sector.
