At its Pocasset site in Massachusetts, HII and Thales have demonstrated the integration of the SAMDIS 600 sonar onto the next-generation REMUS 620 unmanned underwater drone through a series of field exercises.

The collaboration combines multi-angle synthetic aperture sonar imaging with a durable, modular vehicle, offering an advanced toolset for autonomous subsea detection, mapping, and security missions.

Developed for mine countermeasures, underwater security, and monitoring of marine infrastructure, the SAMDIS 600 complements the REMUS 620’s capabilities.

The REMUS 620 is a 7-meter-long UUV capable of 24+ hours of operation, with a range of 80 kilometers (50 miles), a cruising speed of 5 knots (9 km/h, 6 mph), and a maximum dive depth of 1,000 meters (3,280 feet).

HII and Thales emphasized that the integration not only improves the effectiveness of undersea operations but also highlights how cross-industry cooperation can provide defense forces with cutting-edge technologies.
