Israel-based Elbit Systems has secured contracts valued at approximately $150 million to supply its advanced J-MUSIC Directed Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) systems to multiple European aircraft operators.
Under the first agreement, Elbit will equip “high-value airborne platforms” operated by an undisclosed European nation with the J-MUSIC self-protection suite. Additional orders will see the system installed on the transport aircraft fleets of several European NATO members, improving aircraft survivability and crew safety during strategic airlift operations.
These awards build on Elbit’s $260-million contract signed with Airbus Defence and Space in July to provide DIRCM systems for the German Air Force’s A400M transport aircraft.
DIRCM technology is designed to defend aircraft against infrared-guided missiles, particularly man-portable air defense systems, which remain a major threat to transport aircraft, aerial refuelers, special-mission platforms, and VIP aircraft.
Elbit’s J-MUSIC solution integrates advanced laser countermeasure technology with high-performance imaging sensors, delivering robust protection against a wide range of heat-seeking ground-to-air infrared missile threats.
The compact and lightweight system supports distributed installation across diverse aircraft types and can be configured in both single- and multi-turret arrangements. Its open-architecture design enables seamless integration with various missile warning systems, ensuring comprehensive protection for military and civilian operators alike.
