The US Navy is advancing its autonomous capabilities with the introduction of a new 190-foot (58-meter) steel vessel engineered to operate for extended periods without onboard crew.
Known as the “Liberty Class,” the ship is developed by Boston-based Blue Water Autonomy and is capable of traveling up to 10,000 nautical miles (11,508 miles/18,520 kilometers) while carrying a payload of 150 metric tons (330,693 pounds).
Designed for mission flexibility, the vessel can support missile and sensor operations, conduct logistics tasks, and escort conventionally crewed ships.
