Rheinmetall and Indra have entered into a strategic agreement to pursue a multibillion-euro Spanish Army truck program while broadening their defense manufacturing collaboration across Europe. The German and Spanish companies signed a memorandum of understanding focused on military vehicle systems, with plans to establish a joint venture later this year. As part of the effort, they are preparing a bid for a Spanish requirement covering up to 3,000 military trucks, along with additional tactical vehicle platforms.
The partnership extends beyond trucks to include modernization programs for tracked armored vehicles and potential development of infantry fighting vehicle solutions. Both firms also expressed interest in working together on logistics systems and forming consortia for upcoming defense opportunities. In addition to land systems, the agreement spans other domains such as space-based communications and advanced defense technologies, highlighting a push toward integrated, multi-domain capabilities.
This collaboration reflects a broader trend across Europe, where defense companies are increasingly forming alliances to secure large-scale contracts and boost industrial capacity. Recent examples include the Main Armoured Tank of Europe initiative led by KNDS Deutschland and Rheinmetall with participation from 51 organizations across 12 countries, the European Support Vehicles Center JV between Rheinmetall and Poland’s Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa, and Indra’s partnership with Italy’s ELT Group on multi-domain technologies. KNDS has also expanded cooperation with TYTAN Technologies on counter-drone solutions for German land systems.
