LIG Nex1 and Palantir Technologies have entered into a partnership to jointly develop integrated air defense systems and unmanned platforms for the UAE, according to The Korean Times.

The agreement was signed at Palantir’s headquarters in Palo Alto, California, in the presence of senior leadership, though specifics regarding program scope, timelines, and contract value were not disclosed.

As part of the collaboration, South Korea’s LIG Nex1 will bring its expertise in integrated air defense and unmanned systems, while US-based Palantir will contribute advanced data integration and analytics software to link sensors, platforms, and command networks for enhanced defense operations.

Strengthening Air Defense Capabilities
The move comes amid rising regional tensions, with Gulf states facing increasing security risks as confrontation involving Iran, the US, and Israel intensifies.

Iran has reportedly targeted both military and civilian infrastructure tied to US presence in the region, including airports, ports, and energy facilities. Earlier this week, UAE authorities reported explosions and air-raid sirens in several areas.

In response, Abu Dhabi is reinforcing its air and missile defense posture and deepening cooperation with strategic partners such as the US and South Korea. A key component includes the deployment of the South Korean Cheongung-II surface-to-air missile system, which has reportedly intercepted incoming threats, marking its first operational use outside South Korea.

At the same time, the US continues to support the UAE’s defense capabilities. Recently, Raytheon secured a $183.7 million foreign military sales contract to provide additional Patriot system equipment and support for Abu Dhabi.
