GuRu Wireless, Uniquest Corporation, and Arion have formed a partnership to develop a drone platform tailored for persistent intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions serving defense and national security users in South Korea.
The initiative seeks to overcome the endurance constraints of small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS), which depend on batteries and require frequent landings for recharging or replacement. The partners plan to create an untethered sUAS capable of prolonged flight by combining Arion’s autonomy software with GuRu Wireless’ 24 GHz wireless power transfer system. The solution uses a ground-based phased-array transmitter paired with an onboard receiver to deliver power during flight.
The collaboration unites three companies with complementary expertise. US-based GuRu Wireless specializes in wireless power technologies for defense and security applications. South Korea’s Uniquest Corporation serves as an electronics distributor and manufacturer’s representative, facilitating local integration and defense engagement. UK-based Arion develops AI-driven unmanned aerial systems for military and public-sector customers.
The project will advance in phases, starting with live demonstrations, followed by technical validation and pilot programs with South Korean military units. A public demonstration is scheduled for Drone Show Korea 2026, where the partners intend to showcase wireless in-flight power delivery to two sUAS from a single ground-based unit—demonstrating continuous airborne operations without the need for landings or battery swaps.
