L3Harris has initiated high-volume manufacturing of its VAMPIRE counter-unmanned aerial system at its facility in Huntsville, Alabama.
VAMPIRE—short for Vehicle Agnostic Modular Palletized ISR Rocket Equipment—features a plug-and-play architecture that allows it to be rapidly mounted on a wide range of platforms for detecting and engaging aerial threats.
The company’s upgraded production line includes a flexible assembly, testing, and integration setup capable of installing the system on ground vehicles and containerized weapon platforms, addressing growing demand for counter-drone solutions.
Flexible Counter-Drone Capability
The US initially procured 14 VAMPIRE units for Ukraine in 2023 and placed follow-on orders in 2025 to support operations in Europe.
By 2025, the system had evolved into multiple variants tailored for land, maritime, aerial, and electronic warfare roles, incorporating advanced sensor suites powered by artificial intelligence and machine learning.
That same year, VAMPIRE was integrated onto GM Defense’s Infantry Squad Vehicle.
In a recent demonstration, the system successfully launched Thales FZ275 70mm laser-guided rockets against ground targets, showcasing its adaptability in integrating new munitions to meet operational requirements.
