Finnish shipbuilder Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) has started production of the fourth Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvette for the Finnish Navy, placing all four ships of the Squadron 2020 program in concurrent construction. The lead vessel was launched in May last year and has entered the outfitting phase, while hull work on the second ship is nearing completion and the third and fourth are now in early production. Once delivered, the four corvettes will replace seven older platforms, including Rauma-class fast attack craft, Hämeenmaa-class minelayers, and the decommissioned Pohjanmaa minelayer. Optimized for year-round Baltic Sea operations, the Pohjanmaa class will form the backbone of Finland’s future surface fleet. The ships measure approximately 117 meters in length, have a beam of 16 meters, carry a crew of about 70, and can exceed 26 knots. Their armament includes Gabriel anti-ship missiles, Torped 47 lightweight torpedoes, and RIM-162 ESSM air-defence missiles, complemented by a 57 mm gun, decoy launchers, and remote weapon stations. Sensors and weapons are integrated through Saab’s 9LV combat management system.
