GE Aerospace and Shield AI have announced a collaboration to co-develop AI-driven propulsion and autonomy solutions for long-endurance unmanned aerial systems (UAS). The partnership focuses on integrating Shield AI’s advanced artificial intelligence flight autonomy software with GE’s adaptive propulsion systems to create next-generation drones optimized for persistent intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions. The alliance aims to deliver scalable, fuel-efficient, and mission-flexible UAVs for both defense and commercial customers. Shield AI’s proprietary Hivemind autonomy stack, already deployed on multiple aircraft, will be paired with GE’s small turbine engine technology to enhance endurance and adaptability across diverse operational environments. The companies plan to jointly test prototype systems in the coming year, targeting improved operational range and reduced maintenance needs. This collaboration reinforces GE Aerospace’s growing role in next-generation autonomous aviation and supports Shield AI’s goal of fielding AI pilots that can operate without GPS or communications.
