The US Marine Corps has placed an order with L3Harris to upgrade its satellite communication terminals, boosting performance and enabling access to multiple satellite orbits. These enhancements support the Corps’ transition toward more distributed, interconnected operations under Joint All-Domain Command and Control. The order upgrades Panther 2 portable terminals and Ku-band transceivers, raising power output to 25 watts. Panther 2 is a lightweight, tri-band SATCOM system that can be assembled by one Marine in less than 10 minutes. Its design incorporates modular components, a fanless modem, and flexible control interfaces. The system’s weight varies by configuration, with some models under 34 pounds. The project is part of the Marine Corps’ MCWS-X program, which focuses on delivering expeditionary SATCOM solutions for small, agile units.
