LG CNS, a South Korea–based IT services company, has won two contracts from the country’s Defense Information Agency to upgrade and modernize the nation’s military networks and digital infrastructure.

The first contract focuses on integrating the communications networks of the Korean Army, Navy, Air Force, and Joint Chiefs of Staff into a unified architecture.

The second contract aims to modernize the agency’s military facility management system by standardizing data, improving operational efficiency, and enabling end-to-end coordination across all phases of facility management.

The first initiative, titled the Network Integration Project for Parallel Communications Networks, will harmonize network environments across all service branches to enable faster and more effective data sharing. Previously, each branch operated independent systems, which constrained interoperability and slowed information exchange.

The project will utilize software-defined networking to centrally manage routers nationwide, while incorporating enhanced cybersecurity measures such as firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and safeguards against large-scale traffic flooding that could degrade network performance.

An AI-driven monitoring solution will provide real-time visibility into network activity, rapidly analyzing potential threats within seconds rather than minutes. This automation is expected to accelerate response times and allow cybersecurity personnel to focus on higher-level security operations.

Under the second effort, known as the Next-Generation Defense Facility Integrated Information System Construction Project, LG CNS will overhaul the Defense Information Agency’s platform for managing military facilities.

The new system will connect 12 internal government business systems with eight external platforms, integrating administrative, financial, operational, and geospatial data, including terrain and land parcel information.

This consolidated approach will enable comprehensive oversight of defense facility planning, budgeting, construction, maintenance, and national property management through a single, unified interface.
