The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria–D7G (DICON-D7G) has manufactured nearly 1,000 upgraded DG-103 rifles in the first two months of production at its Kaduna facility, local reports confirm.
The DG-103 is an indigenous, licensed variant of the Russian AK-103 chambered in 7.62×39 mm. It features a cyclic firing rate of around 600 rounds per minute, a muzzle velocity exceeding 700 meters per second (2,297 ft/s), and an effective range of up to 500 meters (1,640 ft).
Full-scale production has begun, and DICON-D7G plans to deliver approximately 60 million rounds of ammunition annually. The company is also expanding into drone and anti-drone solutions with early-warning capabilities to enhance frontline operations.
According to Chennar, these developments mark a significant milestone in Nigeria’s drive to strengthen local arms manufacturing. The joint venture between the state-owned Defence Industries Corporation and D7G Company Limited is intended to advance Nigeria’s self-reliance and national defense readiness.
