Russia is fielding a new camouflage system using realistic materials to improve the concealment of troops and ground vehicles along frontline positions, Ukrainian media have reported.

The camouflage sheets incorporate elements that mimic rocks, debris, and textured terrain, enabling better blending with the surrounding environment and reducing visibility to aerial and thermal surveillance systems.

Sources said the development forms part of broader efforts to enhance survivability amid sustained drone reconnaissance and battlefield monitoring.

The deployment aligns with changes in Russian ground tactics, as forces shift away from large-scale assaults toward smaller, more mobile attack units.

Ukraine’s senior military commander noted that Russian troops are now operating in compact assault teams of four to six soldiers, a method described as a “thousand cuts” strategy.

The approach is intended to gradually erode Ukrainian defensive positions, although it has reportedly resulted in heavy Russian infantry casualties.

These tactical adjustments follow Russia’s largest territorial gains in Ukraine since 2022, achieved during the previous year, according to Ukrainian and Western assessments.

Russia has also continued air operations, with recent strikes hitting residential areas in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, damaging multi-story buildings and leaving parts of the city in ruins.

The developments on the battlefield come amid renewed diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict, now approaching its fourth year.
