In an effort to bolster naval security, Taiwan is moving forward with a new long-range cruise missile project, referred to as the “carrier killer.”

The missile is expected to achieve a range of about 1,000 kilometers (621 miles), allowing coverage of wide portions of the South and East China Seas, including regions frequented by China’s carrier groups.

Taiwan’s defense ministry stated the system will be subsonic, drawing from the technology of earlier Hsiung Feng IIE missiles while incorporating improved stealth features.
