Teledyne FLIR Defense will supply and integrate advanced reconnaissance and surveillance kits for Bulgaria’s Stryker infantry carrier vehicles as part of the country’s military modernization program.

Under a three-year, $32-million contract awarded by the US Army, Teledyne will provide its TacFLIR 280-HDEP electro-optical/infrared system, Ranger R20SS long-range radar, and Cameleon control software to detect, track, and engage threats. The kits will be produced across Teledyne’s US and Canadian facilities before delivery to Bulgaria for on-site integration.

Later phases will include standoff identification capabilities using unmanned aerial platforms and launch systems, equipped with nuclear, biological, and chemical detection sensors. This initiative supports Bulgaria’s acquisition of nearly 200 Stryker vehicles, more than half of them infantry carriers, to replace its Soviet-era tactical fleet.

Dr. JihFen Lei, president of Teledyne FLIR Defense, said the program will enhance Bulgaria’s force capabilities, NATO interoperability, and situational awareness. The TacFLIR system provides medium-range thermal and day/night detection, while the Ranger R20SS radar tracks multiple personnel and vehicles up to 20 kilometers away. Data is processed through the scalable Cameleon software platform, enabling integration with minimal modifications.
