The US government has cleared a $2.68-billion foreign military sale of air-strike munitions to Canada as Ottawa increases defense spending. The package includes up to 3,414 BLU-111 general-purpose bombs, over 3,100 GBU-39 precision glide bombs, and more than 5,000 JDAM kits that convert unguided bombs into guided weapons. According to the State Department, the sale strengthens Canada’s deterrence posture, ensures interoperability with US forces, and supports continental security. The notification to Congress underscores the importance of Canada’s modernization efforts amid an evolving defense relationship with Washington.
