Washington has approved a potential Foreign Military Sale to Canada involving Joint Light Tactical Vehicles worth an estimated $160 million.

The Canadian request includes up to 60 JLTVs, nine JLTV cargo trailers, communications and mobility equipment, survivability and lethality upgrades, and a supply of spare and repair parts.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency stated the sale would strengthen Canada’s readiness for current and future threats, enhance its operational flexibility, and support greater burden-sharing with allies in global peacekeeping missions.

AM General, based in Indiana, is designated as the lead contractor. Any offset agreements will be determined during later negotiations.

The move comes amid Canada’s consideration of sourcing more defense equipment from non-US allies. While Ottawa’s planned F-35 purchase from the US has been under review, recent reports suggest the Canadian Armed Forces favor proceeding with the deal.
