Rheinmetall has secured a 300-million-euro ($348.6 million) contract to develop and supply mobile, armored field hospitals for the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr).

Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2029, supporting German troops deployed in Lithuania and other forward positions. The contract, which runs until 2040, includes options for additional units as operational needs evolve.

The modular medical facilities will comply with NATO’s Role 2B standard, enabling emergency surgical procedures and intensive care close to combat zones.

Each system will comprise 11 armored vehicles carrying specialized medical containers that remain attached during transit, ensuring rapid deployment and setup in the field.

The vehicles will be built on Rheinmetall’s HX-series tactical truck platform, known for its high mobility, off-road capability, and enhanced protection against battlefield threats.

Once operational, the mobile hospitals will allow faster, more efficient care for critically wounded personnel, significantly improving survival rates in forward operations.
