Brazil’s Embraer and the Colombian Aeronautical Industry Corporation (CIAC) have signed an agreement to expand industrial collaboration, aimed at strengthening Colombia’s domestic aerospace sector. The partnership establishes a framework for cooperation in areas such as manufacturing, maintenance, and technical development.

It also creates opportunities for CIAC to integrate into Embraer’s global supply chain, particularly within military aviation programs. Potential platforms involved in the collaboration include the A-29 Super Tucano light attack and training aircraft, as well as the KC-390 Millennium tactical transport.

Beyond specific platforms, the agreement focuses on long-term capability development. Both organizations plan to explore knowledge transfer initiatives, workforce training programs, and the enhancement of local technical expertise, positioning Colombia as a regional hub for aerospace maintenance and production.

Colombia is simultaneously advancing its defense and aerospace ambitions. Embraer already has a strong footprint in the country, with approximately 50 aircraft operating across defense, commercial, and executive sectors, including A-29 Super Tucanos used by the Colombian Air Force.

At the same time, Bogotá is strengthening its domestic industrial capabilities. State-owned shipbuilder COTECMAR recently delivered the offshore patrol vessel ARC 24 de Julio, marking the largest and most complex warship designed and built in Colombia.

In parallel, Colombia is modernizing its airpower, having agreed to acquire 17 Gripen fighter jets from Sweden’s Saab in a deal valued at around $4.3 billion.
