Germany has selected RTX’s Raytheon ELCAN optical systems division to supply its Specter DR 1–4x weapon sight in a customized configuration designed to meet specific national operational requirements under Berlin’s ongoing soldier modernization program.
As part of the contract, Raytheon will collaborate with Leonardo Germany to deliver a tailored optic that integrates an Aimpoint reflex sight mounted above the main scope. This setup enables troops to shift rapidly between close-quarters combat and mid-range targeting.
Specter DR Orders Expand Across Europe
The award reflects a wider European push to upgrade infantry optics with features such as multiband laser protection, specialized reticles, and country-specific finishes. Since August 2024, demand for the Specter DR family has grown significantly, with Germany, Denmark, Lithuania, Spain, Italy, and Finland placing combined orders exceeding 100,000 units valued at more than 193 million euros ($228 million).
Among early adopters, Denmark moved ahead in February 2025 when the Danish Armed Forces signed a multi-million-dollar deal with Raytheon through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency to acquire dual-role Specter DR sights, replacing legacy fixed optics and strengthening both close-range and precision engagement capabilities.
