Hensoldt has been awarded a major high-value contract from General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) to supply comprehensive sensor packages for Germany’s new Luchs 2 armored reconnaissance vehicles. The contract, estimated in the upper hundreds of millions of euros, extends to 2032 and includes prototype integration along with two full production lots. The first batch covers 274 vehicles, with further options planned as Germany expands its modernization strategy. The award falls under the broader 3-billion-euro Luchs 2 vehicle program approved in 2023.

As part of the agreement, Hensoldt will deliver mission-critical systems, technical documentation, training programs, spare-parts support, and long-term lifecycle services. The Luchs 2 fleet, scheduled for delivery between 2029 and 2032, is intended to provide the German Army with enhanced surveillance, target detection, and battlefield-intelligence capabilities driven by advanced sensor fusion and AI-enabled analysis.

Central to the package is the Ceretron sensor-fusion mission suite, which integrates live feeds from multiple imaging systems into a unified tactical display. The system combines optical cameras, thermal imagers, and optional SWIR modules, enabling high-precision detection in both day and night conditions. Ceretron’s AI-powered analytics allow the system to automatically identify, track, and classify threats, offering operators significantly improved situational awareness.

Hensoldt’s Ceretron integrates seamlessly with the BAA IV long-range observation platform and the SETAS “see-through armor” system, which provides crews with a full 360-degree view from inside the protected vehicle capsule. The solution can also incorporate acoustic sensors, laser warning receivers, and radio direction-finding modules for broader threat coverage. Through the MDOcore software environment, the system connects to air, land, maritime, cyber, and space networks—supporting Germany’s transition toward highly networked, multi-domain combat operations.
