The German Parliament’s Budget Committee has approved €25 million for the acquisition of up to 747 Twister reconnaissance drones, marking the planned replacement of the long-serving Aladin system built by EMT. Quantum Systems’ Twister was previously selected as the winning platform under Germany’s 2024 tender. The first tranche includes 147 drone systems valued at roughly €16 million, with additional units available through optional orders totaling €70 million. Quantum Systems reportedly maintains the capacity to manufacture 250 drones annually, with flexibility to scale production. Operational deployment is expected no earlier than 2027, pending mandatory qualification trials by the Bundeswehr. The procurement addresses growing obsolescence in the Aladin fleet after nearly twenty years of service. The Twister UAV features vertical takeoff and landing capability, electric propulsion, a 3.8-kg maximum takeoff weight, 3,800-m operating altitude, 15-km reconnaissance range, and up to 90 minutes of endurance. It is designed to function effectively in GPS-denied environments.
