General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) has handed over the first Eagle 6×6 medium protected medical vehicle to the German Armed Forces, under a contract signed in 2020.
The vehicle was delivered to the Medical Training Regiment in Feldkirchen, Bavaria, during an active field response exercise.
Germany’s $159 million investment will cover up to 80 vehicles, intended to enhance the military’s medical transport capabilities.
The new Eagle 6×6 fleet will augment Germany’s existing lineup of light and heavy armored medical platforms, including the older Eagle Ground Reconnaissance System and the Boxer Multi-Role Armored Vehicle.
Measuring 7 meters long, the Eagle 6×6 can carry up to 6,000 kg (13,200 lbs) and accommodate up to 14 personnel, depending on configuration. It runs on a diesel engine generating 360 horsepower, paired with an Allison automatic five-speed transmission and a De Dion independent suspension system.
The vehicle boasts a top speed of 110 km/h (68 mph) and a range of 700 km (435 miles).
Its ambulance version is equipped with a flexible stretcher system and modern medical equipment to transport and care for up to two patients.
