Hensoldt has secured a €340 million ($397 million) contract to supply Ukraine with additional air defense radar systems.
As part of the agreement, the German defense technology firm will provide TRML-4D and SPEXER 2000 3D MkIII radars. The TRML-4D is a critical sensor for the IRIS-T SLM surface-to-air missile system, several of which have already been transferred to Ukraine by Germany.
This radar, based on active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology, can detect, track, and classify around 1,500 targets within a 250-kilometer (155-mile) range — including drones, cruise missiles, helicopters, and fixed-wing aircraft.
The SPEXER 2000, designed for short-range surveillance, can identify ground, maritime, and low-flying aerial threats. It is currently integrated into systems such as the Skyranger 30 mobile air defense platform and the Feldlager and HoWiSM laser-based counter-drone solutions.
