German sensor specialist HENSOLDT has won radar contracts worth more than €100 million ($118.1 million) linked to the German-led European Sky Shield Initiative.

Under agreements with Diehl Defence, HENSOLDT will deliver additional TRML-4D high-performance radars, along with associated maintenance and training support, for integration with IRIS-T SLM air defense systems operated by multiple ESSI member nations.

The TRML-4D radars use advanced active electronically scanned array technology and are capable of detecting, tracking, and classifying a broad spectrum of aerial threats, including cruise missiles, rockets, unmanned systems, and aircraft.

According to the company, ESSI has driven growing demand for integrated sensor-and-effector solutions, while digital, software-defined, modular architectures are shortening development timelines and enhancing overall radar performance.

HENSOLDT has already secured contracts for more than 150 radars across the ESSI program, covering systems such as the TRML-4D, Spexer short-range radar, and the Twinvis passive radar, underscoring its expanding role in Europe’s layered air defense networks.

The latest order forms part of a wider multinational procurement push under ESSI, which has seen numerous European countries modernize and expand their air defense capabilities through coordinated acquisitions.
