Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited has achieved a significant breakthrough in India’s defence manufacturing landscape by becoming the first private-sector firm to deliver the Enhanced Pinaka Mk-I rocket system to the Indian Army. This milestone highlights the expanding role of private industry in supplying advanced combat systems and aligns with the government’s push for self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

The Enhanced Pinaka Mk-I marks a major upgrade to India’s indigenous multi-barrel rocket launcher, extending its strike range to 45–60 kilometers from the earlier 37.5 kilometers. This increased reach enables forces to engage targets deeper within enemy territory while maintaining a safer stand-off distance from counter-battery threats.

Despite its improved range, the system retains its primary function as an area-saturation weapon, capable of delivering intense firepower in a short duration. A single launcher can discharge 12 rockets in just 44 seconds, while a full battery of six launchers can cover an area of approximately 1,000 by 800 meters, making it effective against troop concentrations, supply hubs, and lightly fortified positions.

The upgraded system also incorporates advanced features such as enhanced tracking capabilities and the Automated Gun Aiming and Positioning System (AGAPS). These improvements significantly reduce deployment and firing times, enabling rapid response, improved battlefield adaptability, and greater survivability through shoot-and-scoot operations.
