Kopin Corporation has received a $3.6-million order for its helmet-mounted display (HMD) systems, which will be integrated into an undisclosed European military rotary-wing aircraft platform.

Deliveries under the multi-year agreement are set to commence in 2026 and will continue over the next five years. With this latest award, the company’s total backlog for pilot HMD systems has surpassed $10 million.

Improving Pilot Awareness

The HMD system projects essential flight symbology, navigation information, aircraft performance data, and weapons cues directly into the pilot’s field of view. By minimizing the need for pilots to glance down at cockpit instruments, the system enhances situational awareness while reducing workload during demanding missions.

Helmet-mounted displays have become increasingly common in modern military aviation, especially for helicopters conducting low-altitude operations in contested environments. These systems provide real-time flight and mission data to assist with navigation, targeting, and threat identification without requiring pilots to shift their focus.

Advancements in HMD Capabilities

Over the past decade, helmet-mounted display technology has seen significant improvements in brightness, resolution, and system integration, contributing to safer and more efficient mission performance.

European armed forces continue to invest in upgraded avionics and advanced pilot interface systems as part of efforts to modernize their rotary-wing fleets and ensure interoperability with allied militaries.
