Patria and Latvia have signed a life-cycle support agreement for the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) 6×6 fleet used by the Latvian Armed Forces.

The deal expands on the life-cycle management contract signed in 2024 by Latvia, Finland, and Patria for the CAVS program, which was later joined by Sweden and Denmark.

The agreement defines Latvia-specific sustainment procedures, responsibilities, services, and products aimed at maintaining the long-term readiness of the fleet while meeting national security-of-supply requirements. It also consolidates sustainment activities from local partners and the original equipment manufacturer under a single contract aligned with the broader CAVS life-cycle framework.

Common Vehicle Program

Finland launched the CAVS initiative in 2020 to equip its military and partner nations with a standardized next-generation 6×6 armored vehicle fleet. The vehicle is jointly developed under the program and manufactured in Finland with components supplied from Denmark.

Patria is currently handling close to 2,000 orders for CAVS vehicles, with more than 250 already delivered. The program now includes seven member nations, with Germany joining as the fourth partner, followed by United Kingdom and Norway as the newest participants.

Features

Built on the Patria 6×6 platform, the vehicle emphasizes survivability, mobility, versatility, and cost-efficiency.

Depending on configuration, the armored vehicle can weigh up to 20 tons and reach a length of about 7.5 meters (24.6 feet). It is operated by a commander and driver—with an optional gunner—and can transport up to 10 troops.

Powered by a 394-horsepower diesel engine from Scania, the NATO-standard vehicle can reach speeds of 100 kilometers (62 miles) per hour and travel up to 700 kilometers (435 miles) on a single run. Its modular architecture enables multiple mission configurations, including command, medical evacuation, armored personnel carrier roles, and as a carrier for the Patria NEMO turreted mortar system.
