KNDS Ammo France has secured a contract from the French government to deliver thousands of Shard kinetic-energy rounds for the modernized Leclerc fleet.
Worth more than 100 million euros over seven years, the agreement includes the first deliveries of APFSDS ammunition scheduled for mid-2029. Eurenco will support the effort by providing propellant powder and sabot skirts.
An evolution beyond the existing OFL F1 round, Shard incorporates a newly developed tungsten penetrator and elongated design for greater terminal impact. Engineered to maintain stability under extreme firing stress, the round’s increased velocity is aimed at countering modern composite armor and overwhelming active protection systems.
