Lithuania Acquires Next-Gen Spike LR2 Missiles for Vilkas Vehicles
Under a 6-million-euro ($6.9 million) agreement, the Lithuanian military has taken delivery of Spike LR2 anti-tank missiles from Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.
The new supply will be mounted on Lithuania’s Boxer-based “Vilkas” infantry fighting vehicles, which feature Samson Mk II remote weapon stations armed with a 30mm cannon, 7.62mm machine gun, and Spike LR2 launcher.
The procurement follows successful May live-fire evaluations, carried out with support from the Lithuanian Army, OCCAR, and ARTEC GmbH.
An upgrade to the Spike LR, the Spike LR2 is a fifth-generation ATGM integrating AI-enabled target tracking. It weighs about 13 kilograms, reaches 5.5 km from the ground and 10 km when fired from aircraft, and is 1.2 meters long with a 130mm diameter. Its Tandem HEAT warhead is optimized to defeat advanced armor and penetrate fortifications in urban combat.
