Norway is set to acquire up to 816 GBU-39B Small Diameter Bomb Increment I munitions under a potential $113 million Foreign Military Sale approved by the US State Department.

The package includes spares, logistical support, and technical assistance. The DSCA highlighted that the deal would improve Norway’s defense posture, support NATO interoperability, and enhance its ability to respond to evolving threats.

Boeing will act as the primary contractor, with any offset agreements subject to further negotiations with Norway. The SDB’s smart launcher can mount four 250-pound (113-kilogram) precision-guided bombs at once, optimizing strike payloads.

The munition is equipped with a versatile warhead capable of penetrating fortified targets or delivering fragmentation/blast effects, making it effective against key fixed assets. Using GPS-aided inertial navigation, the GBU-39B can be deployed from fighters or bombers through both internal bays and external pylons, reaching targets at ranges beyond 60 nautical miles (111 kilometers).
