Rheinmetall has announced a major new order from a NATO member for several hundred HERO loitering munition systems, strengthening the company’s position in the fast-growing precision-strike market. The contract—estimated in the low three-digit-million-euro range—will be executed by RWM Italia and its partner UVision Air, with production set to commence soon and deliveries expected by early 2026. The package includes Rheinmetall’s advanced anti-tank warheads, highlighting NATO’s rising demand for modern unmanned strike capabilities.
The HERO family has become increasingly popular due to its broad mission adaptability. The compact HERO-30 supports infantry operations requiring quick-reaction, high-accuracy engagements, while the HERO-120 and HERO-400 offer greater range and destructive power against armored vehicles, hardened structures, and fixed targets. This combination of portability, precision, and versatility has made the HERO series one of the leading loitering munition families in Western defense procurement.
Hungary remains a notable early adopter of the system. In 2023, the country signed a substantial order—also valued in the low three-digit-million-euro bracket—to integrate HERO munitions into its new Lynx IFV formations. The nation showcased the HERO-30 publicly for the first time in 2025, underscoring its commitment to strengthening long-range precision fire capabilities. This progress reflects a broader NATO trend, as member states invest heavily in loitering munitions to enhance battlefield agility and strike effectiveness.
With this latest NATO order, Rheinmetall is further cementing its place as a key supplier of loitering munitions, supporting the alliance’s shift toward networked, unmanned precision weapons designed for modern high-intensity warfare.
