According to South Korea’s Hankyoreh News, Hyundai Rotem plans to turn Poland into the European hub for production and maintenance of the K2 Black Panther main battle tank. The move follows the signing of a second executive contract with Poland’s Ministry of National Defence, valued at about $6.5 billion, expanding significantly on the original 2022 agreement.
The latest deal includes the delivery of 180 additional K2 tanks, with the first 64 configured as the K2PL variant tailored to Poland’s operational needs. Crucially, the agreement transfers full production, assembly, and maintenance technology to Poland. Only the first three K2PL units will be built in South Korea, while the remaining 61 from the initial batch will be assembled locally by the Polish Armaments Group’s subsidiary, Bumar-Łabędy, in Gliwice. The facility is being developed into a regional armored vehicle production and support hub.
