French defense firm Thales has secured a contract to supply advanced air defense radar systems to the Qatar Emiri Air Force, strengthening the country’s multi-layered air surveillance and deterrence capabilities. The order includes the Ground Master 200 Multi-Mission All-in-One (GM200 MM/A) and the Ground Master Alpha (GM400α) radars, which will enable multi-range air monitoring against modern aerial threats.

The agreement also covers national-level management support personnel, sustainment systems, and comprehensive training programs for Qatari operators and maintenance crews. According to Thales, local training and workforce preparation activities will continue on a daily basis until 2036.

The GM200 MM/A is an advanced multi-mission radar capable of detecting small aerial threats at ranges of up to 350 kilometers. It is housed in a 6-meter ISO container with an integrated mast, power generator, and command-and-control modules, and can be transported by military truck and deployed in under 15 minutes. The GM400α complements this capability by detecting targets with slow to high maneuvering profiles in complex operational environments. It is also containerized, features its own lifting system, and can be set up from a vehicle in around one hour. Both systems operate on Thales’s Secure Digital Integration Platform, enabling real-time, unified airspace awareness across secure, networked sensing and command-and-control architectures.
